Neues vom Blogger-Boulevard

--- Die gut 30 offiziellen Convention Bloggers sind inzwischen in Boston auf dem Parteitag der Demokraten gut verdrahtet und schreiben ihre Mediengeschichte eifrig in ihre Laptops. Ganz ohne Pathos geht das nicht immer ab, beispielsweise bei Dave Weinberger: This event marks the day that blogging became something else. Exactly what isn't clear yet, and the culture clash is resulting in public functions that, because there is no single culture of blogging, are Dostoyevskian in their awkwardness. Erstes Highlight gestern war natürlich das Blogger-Frühstück (sponsored by the Democratic National Committee -- bei dem mehr Vertreter der "normalen" Medien anwesend waren als "Amateur"-Autoren. The media are trying to figure us out. The DNC is trying to figure us out. We are always — and in famously self-absorbed ways — trying to figure us out. The difference is that now our presence is undeniable. We are now officially an anomaly. Die meisten Blogger waren wohl wie Josh Marshall den ersten Tag über einfach damit beschäftigt, sich eine Vorgehensweise für die eigene Berichterstattung zurechtzulegen. Und dabei treffen sie dann beispielsweise auf Michael Moore und es kommt zu neuen Einsichten ;-): In any case, there I am a few feet from Moore; and it's one of the first times all day when I can think of a question to ask someone where I'm really curious and uncertain as to what the answer will be. So I ask him what he makes of all of this. No attacks on the president. Not even any mention of the man's name. It's like the anti-Michael Moore event. Or rather the non-Michael Moore event. (I caught myself the first time, realizing that hadn't come out precisely as I'd intended.) Clearly, the guy didn't know what to make of me. And as he breezes by he says, "Oh, Really? I liked it. You don't even have to say it. Everyone knows how bad it is." Think what you will about Michael Moore or evening one of the convention, I think that sums up precisely what this event is all about and the dynamic on which it's operating. ... Among Democrats, the rejection of this president is so total, exists on so many different levels, and is so fused into their understanding of all the major issues facing the country, that it doesn't even need to be explicitly evoked. Ansonsten standen am Abend natürlich die Clintons ("Bill Clinton is a Rock Star"), Al Gore und Jimmy Carter im Spotlight -- eine Zusammenfassung gibt es unter anderem beim left coaster. Die US-Zeitungen haber derweil natürlich auch einiges zum Parteitag zu sagen, nachzulesen etwa in der New York Times, in der LA Times und der Washington Post. Update: Bei Spiegel Online hat der Korrespondent immer noch nicht verstanden, dass dieses Mal nicht wieder Clinton dem Kandidaten die Schau stiehlt, sondern dass es dieses Mal die Blogger sind.
